Narrative:

Flight was scheduled to fly direct from tpa to clt. Due to thunderstorms in a line running solid that evening from tri to pensacola, we entered holding at flo and the captain decided to proceed to ilm, our alternate. He indicated his plan was to proceed to ilm, refuel and then continue to clt. This is what we did, in fact. Prior to proceeding to the alternate, I expressed my concern to the captain and first officer about flying over 8 hours in a 24 hour period. The captain said, 'don't bother me now--what's important is the safety of the flight.' I realize we needed to proceed to our alternate, but I was concerned about continuing on that evening to clt. We should have stayed in ilm that night, so we could have been legal to fly to clt in the morning. When we landed in ilm, we had already flown 7 hours, 35 mins that day. Ilm to clt was scheduled for more than 25 mins. We ended up flying 8 hours, 30 mins, because the captain did not consider this as an issue. However, I did bring it to his attention and got stifled. I'm now exposed to a violation. (Get homeitis.)
