Narrative:

We were advised by approach control to descend from 8000' to 7000'. 30 seconds later ATC advised traffic Y 10-11 O'clock at 6500', unconfirmed. 30 seconds after that ATC advised traffic was 11 O'clock and climbing. Crew had TCAS contact and requested further ATC advisories. ATC advised us to turn left 30 degrees, traffic Y now 11:30 climbing out of 6700'. TCASII TA followed by TCASII RA. Crew took manual evasive action (full power climbing left turn). Crew advised ATC of right/a and crew evasive action. Near miss but no visibility sighting. We then returned to normal flight profile and normal approach and landing accomplished. Our compliments to approach control for excellent control. TCASII worked as advertised.
