Narrative:

I relieved the day shift dispatcher on 4/tue/91. At that time the release for air carrier fb sjc-bos had already disseminated. Air carrier fb departed sjc as did air carrier ab lax-bos. Both flts had been released to bos alternate none. I had worked this particular desk for the proceeding yr, up to 2/91. Air carrier fb sjc-obs was a new flight/city pair for this desk, since 3/91. About hour after both flts had departed for bos, a revised bos forecast was issued for conditions well below alternate none. I thought from passed experience on this desk, that air carrier ab was the only bos arrival I had en route, I then sent air carrier ab alternate bdl WX and fuel burns. When in the vicinity of western northeast. I then contacted air carrier ab about one and half hours later on the radio over ord, to bring him up to date on the bos WX. I did not send alternate information to air carrier fb because I didn't know he was en route to bos. The crew of air carrier fb never contacted dispatch en route to bos. The crew of air carrier fb never contacted dispatch en route to bos. They pulled the bos WX via ACARS and landed at bos. The first time I talked to the captain was when he called dispatch after landing in bos. I looking back over this event, it's clear to me that I should have used a computer entry to check, the bos arrs, instead of past experience.
