Narrative:

I was on an IFR flight plan from ZZZ to rap. Approach cleared me for the visual to runway. I acknowledged. I confirmed airport in sight. Approach said contact tower; I did. Tower cleared me to land; I acknowledged. At about 500 ft. AGL I look more closely and see a passenger jet in position for take off. Tower says go around. I do. At this point I am right of the runway centerline; not wanting to over fly the departing jet or the runway I continue my right turn 360 degrees. Tower cleared me to enter downwind. I didn't catch which [direction]. My call was to stay as far away from the departing traffic as possible. I recalled that one runway was right traffic so I continued my 360 turn. Tower cleared me to land; I acknowledged and landed. On the ground I confirm that runway is left traffic.
