Narrative:

After leaving the FBO I had trouble with the headset. I could hear xmissions, but could not transmit. I used the hand held microphone in the aircraft to talk to tower and ground control. I was instructed by ground control to taxi to runway 30L at delta. After performing all takeoff checklists, I announced identification ready for takeoff. I was instructed to hold short of the runway. After an airliner landed I received a clearance to taxi into position and hold runway 30L. While taxiing out I thought I heard my call sign and instructions to cross a runway. I xed runway 30L and announced 'identification I'm confused.' there was also another aircraft on the field with a similar call sign on frequency. The controller told me stay clear of all runways, now what I want you to do is do a 180 position and hold. I read back, looked at the approach end for traffic, saw none and proceeded out to the runway. Since I did not hear a confirmation on my readback, I immediately announced 'identification, in position and holding.' the tower controller said, 'aagh', identification clear runway immediately, jet on short final. I immediately turned to the terminal side of runway 30L at delta and saw the jet 2 or more mi out. After the jet landed I was cleared to position and hold and later cleared for takeoff. I continued my flight west/O incident. Probable causes of problem. The controller may not have heard my readback prior to my entering runway 30L the second time because, I may have unsuccessfully transmitted using the button on the yoke. (I still had the headset on, one mistake). I should have never moved my aircraft onto a runway west/O the controller agreeing with my readback. In this case, I obviously misunderstood him. After the original misunderstanding I should have been much more careful with communications.

Title: SPI ON CROSS-COUNTRY FLT HAS PROBLEM WITH PUSH TO TALK AND SIMILAR CALL SIGN ACFT. TAXIES ACROSS RWY, TWICE.

Narrative: AFTER LEAVING THE FBO I HAD TROUBLE WITH THE HEADSET. I COULD HEAR XMISSIONS, BUT COULD NOT XMIT. I USED THE HAND HELD MICROPHONE IN THE ACFT TO TALK TO TWR AND GND CTL. I WAS INSTRUCTED BY GND CTL TO TAXI TO RWY 30L AT DELTA. AFTER PERFORMING ALL TKOF CHKLISTS, I ANNOUNCED ID READY FOR TKOF. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF THE RWY. AFTER AN AIRLINER LANDED I RECEIVED A CLRNC TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 30L. WHILE TAXIING OUT I THOUGHT I HEARD MY CALL SIGN AND INSTRUCTIONS TO CROSS A RWY. I XED RWY 30L AND ANNOUNCED 'ID I'M CONFUSED.' THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER ACFT ON THE FIELD WITH A SIMILAR CALL SIGN ON FREQ. THE CTLR TOLD ME STAY CLR OF ALL RWYS, NOW WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO IS DO A 180 POS AND HOLD. I READ BACK, LOOKED AT THE APCH END FOR TFC, SAW NONE AND PROCEEDED OUT TO THE RWY. SINCE I DID NOT HEAR A CONFIRMATION ON MY READBACK, I IMMEDIATELY ANNOUNCED 'ID, IN POS AND HOLDING.' THE TWR CTLR SAID, 'AAGH', ID CLR RWY IMMEDIATELY, JET ON SHORT FINAL. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED TO THE TERMINAL SIDE OF RWY 30L AT DELTA AND SAW THE JET 2 OR MORE MI OUT. AFTER THE JET LANDED I WAS CLRED TO POS AND HOLD AND LATER CLRED FOR TKOF. I CONTINUED MY FLT W/O INCIDENT. PROBABLE CAUSES OF PROB. THE CTLR MAY NOT HAVE HEARD MY READBACK PRIOR TO MY ENTERING RWY 30L THE SEC TIME BECAUSE, I MAY HAVE UNSUCCESSFULLY XMITTED USING THE BUTTON ON THE YOKE. (I STILL HAD THE HEADSET ON, ONE MISTAKE). I SHOULD HAVE NEVER MOVED MY ACFT ONTO A RWY W/O THE CTLR AGREEING WITH MY READBACK. IN THIS CASE, I OBVIOUSLY MISUNDERSTOOD HIM. AFTER THE ORIGINAL MISUNDERSTANDING I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE CAREFUL WITH COMS.
