Narrative:

Captain was flying on a high right downwind approach control asked for a short turn to final (at 5000') for traffic sep with a commuter aircraft (which was never seen) for runway 24L (ILS out of service). A widebody transport was already on a base leg ahead of us at this time. This high, close in situation required an initial blind turn back to the airport. Completing the base turn and starting the final turn we were fastly gaining on the widebody transport ahead and were concerned about spacing. While attempting to gain spacing, we rolled out on runway 25L instead of runway 24L. We assumed the widebody transport was landing on runway 24R and we were adjusting to his left for wake turbulence avoidance. Tower then advised us that we were lined up on runway 25L and to cross back to runway 24L. We did so with no traffic conflict. Due to close in pattern, late afternoon sun over runways, widebody transport traffic immediately ahead, and multiple runways we lost track of north complex of runways.

Title: ACR LGT WRONG RWY APCH AT LAX ON VISUAL TO RWYS 24. FLT CREW FOLLOWED A WDB TO RWY 25 COMPLEX.

Narrative: CAPT WAS FLYING ON A HIGH R DOWNWIND APCH CTL ASKED FOR A SHORT TURN TO FINAL (AT 5000') FOR TFC SEP WITH A COMMUTER ACFT (WHICH WAS NEVER SEEN) FOR RWY 24L (ILS OUT OF SVC). A WDB WAS ALREADY ON A BASE LEG AHEAD OF US AT THIS TIME. THIS HIGH, CLOSE IN SITUATION REQUIRED AN INITIAL BLIND TURN BACK TO THE ARPT. COMPLETING THE BASE TURN AND STARTING THE FINAL TURN WE WERE FASTLY GAINING ON THE WDB AHEAD AND WERE CONCERNED ABOUT SPACING. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GAIN SPACING, WE ROLLED OUT ON RWY 25L INSTEAD OF RWY 24L. WE ASSUMED THE WDB WAS LNDG ON RWY 24R AND WE WERE ADJUSTING TO HIS L FOR WAKE TURB AVOIDANCE. TWR THEN ADVISED US THAT WE WERE LINED UP ON RWY 25L AND TO CROSS BACK TO RWY 24L. WE DID SO WITH NO TFC CONFLICT. DUE TO CLOSE IN PATTERN, LATE AFTERNOON SUN OVER RWYS, WDB TFC IMMEDIATELY AHEAD, AND MULTIPLE RWYS WE LOST TRACK OF N COMPLEX OF RWYS.
