Narrative:

Immediately after departing ZZZZ the electric stab trim failed. Neither stab trim switch on either yoke would actuate the system. Reverted to using the manual trim wheel to maintain the aircraft in a trimmed state. Notified ATC and climbed to FL230 to clear terrain and some towering cumulus buildups in the vicinity. Completed the electric stab trim inoperative checklist and returned to ZZZZ where an uneventful flaps 15 landing was made. We requested an extended final approach (approximately 20 miles) so as to configure and stabilize the aircraft early.
