Narrative:

Cmi uses the txwys for takeoff and landing (pattern work) of GA/flight school aircraft. Although this important fact is obscurely noted on the airport diagram of the airport chart, I strongly suggest that this fact be verbally transmitted to pilots (especially unfamiliar with this airport practice) by ATC controllers, when these operations are in progress. The controller cleared us to land on runway 32L at cmi, and hold short of runway 36 for landing GA aircraft. I requested a full length landing, so he then cleared us to land on runway 32L and cleared the GA aircraft to land on runway 36, to hold short of our runway 32 (this made much more sense). As we were rolling out after landing, we were instructed to, 'roll to the end of runway 23L, make a right and hold short.' I read back, 'roll to the end, make a right turn, and hold short of runway 36,' anticipating aircraft operations on that runway. As we made the right turn at the end of the runway 23L, the controller instructed us to, 'stop.' I was already almost stopped, in anticipation of holding short of runway 36. I was surprised, however. To see and aircraft lined up on the parallel taxiway for runway 32L, awaiting a takeoff clearance. The ATC supervisor said that the controller had failed to listen to my readback. However, no problem resulted, but the potential for a problem existed. Non standard operations should be communicated to pilots, especially those unfamiliar with local procedures.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG INSTRUCTED HOLD. FLT CREW INTERPRETED INSTRUCTIONS TO MEAN HOLD SHORT OF RWY 18-36.

Narrative: CMI USES THE TXWYS FOR TKOF AND LNDG (PATTERN WORK) OF GA/FLT SCHOOL ACFT. ALTHOUGH THIS IMPORTANT FACT IS OBSCURELY NOTED ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM OF THE ARPT CHART, I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT THIS FACT BE VERBALLY XMITTED TO PLTS (ESPECIALLY UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS ARPT PRACTICE) BY ATC CTLRS, WHEN THESE OPS ARE IN PROGRESS. THE CTLR CLRED US TO LAND ON RWY 32L AT CMI, AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 36 FOR LNDG GA ACFT. I REQUESTED A FULL LENGTH LNDG, SO HE THEN CLRED US TO LAND ON RWY 32L AND CLRED THE GA ACFT TO LAND ON RWY 36, TO HOLD SHORT OF OUR RWY 32 (THIS MADE MUCH MORE SENSE). AS WE WERE ROLLING OUT AFTER LNDG, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO, 'ROLL TO THE END OF RWY 23L, MAKE A RIGHT AND HOLD SHORT.' I READ BACK, 'ROLL TO THE END, MAKE A RIGHT TURN, AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 36,' ANTICIPATING ACFT OPS ON THAT RWY. AS WE MADE THE RIGHT TURN AT THE END OF THE RWY 23L, THE CTLR INSTRUCTED US TO, 'STOP.' I WAS ALREADY ALMOST STOPPED, IN ANTICIPATION OF HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 36. I WAS SURPRISED, HOWEVER. TO SEE AND ACFT LINED UP ON THE PARALLEL TXWY FOR RWY 32L, AWAITING A TKOF CLRNC. THE ATC SUPVR SAID THAT THE CTLR HAD FAILED TO LISTEN TO MY READBACK. HOWEVER, NO PROB RESULTED, BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR A PROB EXISTED. NON STANDARD OPS SHOULD BE COMMUNICATED TO PLTS, ESPECIALLY THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH LCL PROCS.
