Narrative:

While on downwind for runway xx at ZZZ; I heard a twin-engine cessna announce he was departing westbound before takeoff on runway xx. The offending aircraft took off; then turned west before reaching pattern altitude and cut across downwind leg (runway xx) at pattern altitude between two other aircraft. I estimate that the offending aircraft missed my aircraft by approximately 300 ft.
