Narrative:

I was told by cmh approach to expect the NDB 27 approach to osu. I lost radio contact just north of osu on an 090 degree heading (vectored) for approach. I could not raise cmh approach on osu tower at 9 NM east of osu. I turned in and did the NDB 27 approach to osu, broke out of clouds at 2000' MSL, and called position reports in case osu tower could hear me. At 2 mi final I realized I had somehow switched the speaker headphone switch to the off position. I turned it to headphones and established contact with osu. They cleared me to land. While I was on the approach before breaking out I squawked 7700, then 7600 to let cmh approach know my problem. Osu tower seemed to take it in stride--no big deal to them. I went through a cockpit check at the first sign of lost communications, but did not think of the speaker headphone switch until later. It will be the first thing I check next time. I still don't know how I knocked it off.

Title: GA SMT LOST RADIO CONTACT WITH CMH APCH WHILE ON VECTORS FOR NDB APCH TO OSU. CONTINUED APCH AND SET TRANSPONDER TO LOST COM SETTING. BEFORE LNDG DISCOVERED HE HAD TURNED OFF HIS RADIO SPEAKER HEADPHONE SWITCH.

Narrative: I WAS TOLD BY CMH APCH TO EXPECT THE NDB 27 APCH TO OSU. I LOST RADIO CONTACT JUST N OF OSU ON AN 090 DEG HDG (VECTORED) FOR APCH. I COULD NOT RAISE CMH APCH ON OSU TWR AT 9 NM E OF OSU. I TURNED IN AND DID THE NDB 27 APCH TO OSU, BROKE OUT OF CLOUDS AT 2000' MSL, AND CALLED POS RPTS IN CASE OSU TWR COULD HEAR ME. AT 2 MI FINAL I REALIZED I HAD SOMEHOW SWITCHED THE SPEAKER HEADPHONE SWITCH TO THE OFF POS. I TURNED IT TO HEADPHONES AND ESTABLISHED CONTACT WITH OSU. THEY CLRED ME TO LAND. WHILE I WAS ON THE APCH BEFORE BREAKING OUT I SQUAWKED 7700, THEN 7600 TO LET CMH APCH KNOW MY PROB. OSU TWR SEEMED TO TAKE IT IN STRIDE--NO BIG DEAL TO THEM. I WENT THROUGH A COCKPIT CHK AT THE FIRST SIGN OF LOST COMS, BUT DID NOT THINK OF THE SPEAKER HEADPHONE SWITCH UNTIL LATER. IT WILL BE THE FIRST THING I CHK NEXT TIME. I STILL DON'T KNOW HOW I KNOCKED IT OFF.
