Narrative:
My student and I were practicing landings. While in the downwind of the traffic pattern for runway 17 at ftw we flew past a drone. We did not have to take evasive action. The drone was approximately 100 ft. Away from our wing. The drone appeared to be orange-red in color and was about the size of a forearm. We made the report to tower shortly after seeing the drone. During our next lap in the traffic pattern we looked for the drone again; but we were unable to find it.
