Narrative:

We had just landed on runway 26L after flying in from ord. We rolled out to the end. Tower instructed us to turn off right, then take taxiway C, hold short of C4. The captain asked me if C was the parallel taxiway between runways 26L and 26R, or the ramp/taxiway on the far side of 26R. I checked my airport chart, but was a little slow to figure it out because of dim cockpit lighting, small and busy chart, and the fact that my night/near vision isn't what it used to be (even though I was wearing prescription bifocals). Meanwhile, the captain said he thought he had it figured out and taxied across 26R. Tower then informed us of our error and the captain apologized. The captain later called the tower supervisor on the phone and repeated the apology. There was no traffic on, approaching or departing from 26R, so there was fortunately no conflict. Lessons relearned: 1) when in doubt, stop. Assertively suggest to the captain that he do just that. 2) if you need it, ask for progressive taxi instructions. 3) try to familiarize yourself with turnoff taxiway designations before beginning the descent for landing.

Title: AFTER LNDG ON RWY 26L, ACFT TAXIED ACROSS RWY 26R EVEN THOUGH TOLD TO HOLD SHORT.

Narrative: WE HAD JUST LANDED ON RWY 26L AFTER FLYING IN FROM ORD. WE ROLLED OUT TO THE END. TWR INSTRUCTED US TO TURN OFF RIGHT, THEN TAKE TXWY C, HOLD SHORT OF C4. THE CAPT ASKED ME IF C WAS THE PARALLEL TXWY BTWN RWYS 26L AND 26R, OR THE RAMP/TXWY ON THE FAR SIDE OF 26R. I CHKED MY ARPT CHART, BUT WAS A LITTLE SLOW TO FIGURE IT OUT BECAUSE OF DIM COCKPIT LIGHTING, SMALL AND BUSY CHART, AND THE FACT THAT MY NIGHT/NEAR VISION ISN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE (EVEN THOUGH I WAS WEARING PRESCRIPTION BIFOCALS). MEANWHILE, THE CAPT SAID HE THOUGHT HE HAD IT FIGURED OUT AND TAXIED ACROSS 26R. TWR THEN INFORMED US OF OUR ERROR AND THE CAPT APOLOGIZED. THE CAPT LATER CALLED THE TWR SUPVR ON THE PHONE AND REPEATED THE APOLOGY. THERE WAS NO TFC ON, APCHING OR DEPARTING FROM 26R, SO THERE WAS FORTUNATELY NO CONFLICT. LESSONS RELEARNED: 1) WHEN IN DOUBT, STOP. ASSERTIVELY SUGGEST TO THE CAPT THAT HE DO JUST THAT. 2) IF YOU NEED IT, ASK FOR PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. 3) TRY TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH TURNOFF TXWY DESIGNATIONS BEFORE BEGINNING THE DSNT FOR LNDG.
