Narrative:

After receiving takeoff clearance on runway 21R at dtw, we were instructed to turn right heading 260 degrees. We complied with the clearance as instructed. After about 3-5 mins the controller gave us another heading change to north (360 degrees). During the turn we leveled off at 5000' MSL. As we proceeded to the north we were instructed to turn left heading 270 degrees. Approximately 1-2 mins later my first officer noticed an light transport Y coming from the east at a converging course. The light transport Y crossed below and behind us in a turn at approximately 300'. The crew of the light transport Y, a well-known commuter airline, were not pleased with the situation and asked the controller for her initials. She became flustered and was soon replaced. We continued to mqt west/O further incident. Supplemental information from acn 170742: my aircraft was in level flight on a 280 degree heading at 5000' MSL. An mdt X was vectored to the north at 5000', putting us on a collision course. The event occurred over yip 10 mi west of dtw in VFR night conditions. At dtw departure controller was working both aircraft. The conflict was discovered by visibility contact and my aircraft executed a 60 degree banked turn to the north while descending to avoid collision. It didn't appear the mdt X ever saw us. The controller attempted to resolve conflict by turning us north and the mdt X southwest. The controller issued instructions a couple of seconds after we began evasive maneuvers. Contributing to the near miss, the mdt X departed runway 21R at dtw while my aircraft departed runway 21C at dtw approximately 1 min later. Both aircraft were being vectored for the northbound departure corridor. Controller error was admitted by dtw. Human performance: obviously the controller should have maintained IFR sep of the aircraft, but both flight crews should have seen the conflict and reacted sooner. At our initial sighting of the mdt X weren't sure which way it was headed. Within 1 second we decided on evasive action. Note: the proximity of 1000' horizontal sep is a guesstimate. I could see the mdt X paint color illuminated by its logo lights as we turned away from it. Too close for me!

Title: DEP CTLR TURNED MDT INTO PATH OF LTT WITH LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION.

Narrative: AFTER RECEIVING TKOF CLRNC ON RWY 21R AT DTW, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TURN RIGHT HDG 260 DEGS. WE COMPLIED WITH THE CLRNC AS INSTRUCTED. AFTER ABOUT 3-5 MINS THE CTLR GAVE US ANOTHER HDG CHANGE TO N (360 DEGS). DURING THE TURN WE LEVELED OFF AT 5000' MSL. AS WE PROCEEDED TO THE N WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TURN LEFT HDG 270 DEGS. APPROX 1-2 MINS LATER MY F/O NOTICED AN LTT Y COMING FROM THE E AT A CONVERGING COURSE. THE LTT Y CROSSED BELOW AND BEHIND US IN A TURN AT APPROX 300'. THE CREW OF THE LTT Y, A WELL-KNOWN COMMUTER AIRLINE, WERE NOT PLEASED WITH THE SITUATION AND ASKED THE CTLR FOR HER INITIALS. SHE BECAME FLUSTERED AND WAS SOON REPLACED. WE CONTINUED TO MQT W/O FURTHER INCIDENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 170742: MY ACFT WAS IN LEVEL FLT ON A 280 DEG HDG AT 5000' MSL. AN MDT X WAS VECTORED TO THE N AT 5000', PUTTING US ON A COLLISION COURSE. THE EVENT OCCURRED OVER YIP 10 MI W OF DTW IN VFR NIGHT CONDITIONS. AT DTW DEP CTLR WAS WORKING BOTH ACFT. THE CONFLICT WAS DISCOVERED BY VIS CONTACT AND MY ACFT EXECUTED A 60 DEG BANKED TURN TO THE N WHILE DSNDING TO AVOID COLLISION. IT DIDN'T APPEAR THE MDT X EVER SAW US. THE CTLR ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE CONFLICT BY TURNING US N AND THE MDT X SW. THE CTLR ISSUED INSTRUCTIONS A COUPLE OF SECS AFTER WE BEGAN EVASIVE MANEUVERS. CONTRIBUTING TO THE NEAR MISS, THE MDT X DEPARTED RWY 21R AT DTW WHILE MY ACFT DEPARTED RWY 21C AT DTW APPROX 1 MIN LATER. BOTH ACFT WERE BEING VECTORED FOR THE NBND DEP CORRIDOR. CTLR ERROR WAS ADMITTED BY DTW. HUMAN PERFORMANCE: OBVIOUSLY THE CTLR SHOULD HAVE MAINTAINED IFR SEP OF THE ACFT, BUT BOTH FLT CREWS SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE CONFLICT AND REACTED SOONER. AT OUR INITIAL SIGHTING OF THE MDT X WEREN'T SURE WHICH WAY IT WAS HEADED. WITHIN 1 SEC WE DECIDED ON EVASIVE ACTION. NOTE: THE PROX OF 1000' HORIZ SEP IS A GUESSTIMATE. I COULD SEE THE MDT X PAINT COLOR ILLUMINATED BY ITS LOGO LIGHTS AS WE TURNED AWAY FROM IT. TOO CLOSE FOR ME!
