Narrative:

On taxi out; ramp told us to do a 180 and go to spot X. After the turn; ramp told us to follow aircraft Y to 15L and monitor metering. So we did until aircraft Y continued past 15L. So we stopped and contacted metering; who switched us to ground who gave us further taxi instructions and a phone number to call after landing. Upon completion of the flight I called the number and the controller said they have been having repeated events of flights taxing out without clearance and asked us what happened. I repeated the above. He thanked me and advised that there were no conflicts.
