Narrative:

The problem arose as I cleared the active runway at auburn airport where I rented the small aircraft. Unicom radioed that I was supposed to call rnt tower. I called and was told that I invaded their airspace and caused a pilot to proceed with evasive maneuvers while he was doing touch and go's in rnt. I thought I was at least 5 mi from the airport at rnt. I have flown the same flight path for 6 months and have had not problems. Apparently I was in their traffic area all along. The traffic I saw while passing through was well above me and did not appear to in 'evasive action,' but apparently was, according to the lady at the tower. She said I invaded her area and explained where the 5 mi circumference was, and gave her reporting frequency next time I traversed through her area. I apologized and let her know it would not happen again.

Title: PLT OF SMA NAVIGATION BY PILOTAGE TRANSGRESSED ATA AT RNT.

Narrative: THE PROB AROSE AS I CLRED THE ACTIVE RWY AT AUBURN ARPT WHERE I RENTED THE SMA. UNICOM RADIOED THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL RNT TWR. I CALLED AND WAS TOLD THAT I INVADED THEIR AIRSPACE AND CAUSED A PLT TO PROCEED WITH EVASIVE MANEUVERS WHILE HE WAS DOING TOUCH AND GO'S IN RNT. I THOUGHT I WAS AT LEAST 5 MI FROM THE ARPT AT RNT. I HAVE FLOWN THE SAME FLT PATH FOR 6 MONTHS AND HAVE HAD NOT PROBS. APPARENTLY I WAS IN THEIR TFC AREA ALL ALONG. THE TFC I SAW WHILE PASSING THROUGH WAS WELL ABOVE ME AND DID NOT APPEAR TO IN 'EVASIVE ACTION,' BUT APPARENTLY WAS, ACCORDING TO THE LADY AT THE TWR. SHE SAID I INVADED HER AREA AND EXPLAINED WHERE THE 5 MI CIRCUMFERENCE WAS, AND GAVE HER RPTING FREQ NEXT TIME I TRAVERSED THROUGH HER AREA. I APOLOGIZED AND LET HER KNOW IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
