Narrative:

Loss of cabin pressure forced a rapid descent. Aircraft was cleared to 24000'. I chose to declare an emergency and continue past 24000' down to 10000' to stabilize cabin altitude. ATC had little time to reclr us just 24000' before we went through that altitude. Flight was en route from dtw-msp and continued on to msp. No further problems. Supplemental information from acn 169749: we notified ATC that we needed a descent. We were cleared to FL240. Nearing FL240 we requested lower.
