I was captain and the pilot flying on descent into mci in IMC conditions. From 16;000 ft. To 12;000 ft.; we received 2 taps (turbulence auto pirep system) event of severe turbulence. [Report] stated max flag threshold not exceeded. Peak loads plus 1.56g and minus 0.254g. However the actual aircraft never experienced anything greater than moderate turbulence.cause was turbulence associated with a cold front passing to our east. The taps system did not correctly reflect the actual aircraft conditions.
