Narrative:

While making an approach to runway 31 at crp, several factors caused us to misident runway 31 at cabaniss nolf as runway 31 at crp. We were given an intercept heading and 2000' and cleared for localizer 31 approach. We were solid IMC when we intercepted the localizer. As we started our descent to 1600', as per the approach, we were switched over to crp tower. The captain contacted the tower at about the same time we broke out of the base of the clouds. The tower's initial response was unintelligible. When we broke out, we were lined up for runway 31, but looked quite high on the approach. We started our descent procedures (landing gear down, landing flaps, completing landing checklist). At the same time, the captain asked the tower to repeat their last transmission. We were advised of traffic in a touch and go pattern and to continue. This all happened within a period of approximately 45 seconds to 1 min. At approximately 300' AGL we recognized the discrepancy between the DME readout and our position to the runway, and we executed a go around. The hectic environment of the 2-M cockpit, along with these particular WX conditions, the misunderstanding of the ATC transmission and extremely similar runway environment within such close proximity led to a very close mistake.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG DESCENDING AND APCHING CRP SAW RWY. FLT CREW ACCELERATED APCH AND FINAL CHECKS, THEN REALIZED THEY WERE LOOKING AT RWY 31 AT NGW. MADE A GO AROUND AND APCHED AND LANDED CRP.

Narrative: WHILE MAKING AN APCH TO RWY 31 AT CRP, SEVERAL FACTORS CAUSED US TO MISIDENT RWY 31 AT CABANISS NOLF AS RWY 31 AT CRP. WE WERE GIVEN AN INTERCEPT HDG AND 2000' AND CLRED FOR LOC 31 APCH. WE WERE SOLID IMC WHEN WE INTERCEPTED THE LOC. AS WE STARTED OUR DSNT TO 1600', AS PER THE APCH, WE WERE SWITCHED OVER TO CRP TWR. THE CAPT CONTACTED THE TWR AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME WE BROKE OUT OF THE BASE OF THE CLOUDS. THE TWR'S INITIAL RESPONSE WAS UNINTELLIGIBLE. WHEN WE BROKE OUT, WE WERE LINED UP FOR RWY 31, BUT LOOKED QUITE HIGH ON THE APCH. WE STARTED OUR DSNT PROCS (LNDG GEAR DOWN, LNDG FLAPS, COMPLETING LNDG CHKLIST). AT THE SAME TIME, THE CAPT ASKED THE TWR TO REPEAT THEIR LAST XMISSION. WE WERE ADVISED OF TFC IN A TOUCH AND GO PATTERN AND TO CONTINUE. THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN A PERIOD OF APPROX 45 SECS TO 1 MIN. AT APPROX 300' AGL WE RECOGNIZED THE DISCREPANCY BTWN THE DME READOUT AND OUR POS TO THE RWY, AND WE EXECUTED A GAR. THE HECTIC ENVIRONMENT OF THE 2-M COCKPIT, ALONG WITH THESE PARTICULAR WX CONDITIONS, THE MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE ATC XMISSION AND EXTREMELY SIMILAR RWY ENVIRONMENT WITHIN SUCH CLOSE PROX LED TO A VERY CLOSE MISTAKE.
