Narrative:

Upon arrival in aus after a divert from iah for WX, the aircraft was taxied to the south ramp for parking to wait for a gate along with numerous other aircraft. The marshaller was on the lead in line at the 2 O'clock position. A wing-walker was at the 10 O'clock position in clear view of the left wing area. We noticed the close proximity of a light pole on the left side of the parking area. The aircraft was brought to a complete stop. After a thumbs-up (all clear) signal from the wing-walker, the marshaller gave us the 'come ahead' signal. Shortly after resuming the taxi, we noted an emergency stop signal from the wing-walker, immediately followed by another emergency stop by the marshaller. The left wing tip of the aircraft had grazed a free-standing light pole damaging the left outboard leading edge slightly (1 3/4' X 10'). Company was notified and maintenance was called. The aus ramp area where we parked was, I believe, improperly marked. The light pole was way too close to the parking area. This whole parking are is set up for problems. If they can't change more incidents will occur.

Title: ACR LGT HIT A LIGHT POLE WHILE TAXIING TO THE GATE AT AUS UNDER SIGNAL MAN'S DIRECTIONS.

Narrative: UPON ARR IN AUS AFTER A DIVERT FROM IAH FOR WX, THE ACFT WAS TAXIED TO THE S RAMP FOR PARKING TO WAIT FOR A GATE ALONG WITH NUMEROUS OTHER ACFT. THE MARSHALLER WAS ON THE LEAD IN LINE AT THE 2 O'CLOCK POS. A WING-WALKER WAS AT THE 10 O'CLOCK POS IN CLR VIEW OF THE LEFT WING AREA. WE NOTICED THE CLOSE PROX OF A LIGHT POLE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PARKING AREA. THE ACFT WAS BROUGHT TO A COMPLETE STOP. AFTER A THUMBS-UP (ALL CLR) SIGNAL FROM THE WING-WALKER, THE MARSHALLER GAVE US THE 'COME AHEAD' SIGNAL. SHORTLY AFTER RESUMING THE TAXI, WE NOTED AN EMER STOP SIGNAL FROM THE WING-WALKER, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER EMER STOP BY THE MARSHALLER. THE LEFT WING TIP OF THE ACFT HAD GRAZED A FREE-STANDING LIGHT POLE DAMAGING THE LEFT OUTBOARD LEADING EDGE SLIGHTLY (1 3/4' X 10'). COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED AND MAINT WAS CALLED. THE AUS RAMP AREA WHERE WE PARKED WAS, I BELIEVE, IMPROPERLY MARKED. THE LIGHT POLE WAS WAY TOO CLOSE TO THE PARKING AREA. THIS WHOLE PARKING ARE IS SET UP FOR PROBS. IF THEY CAN'T CHANGE MORE INCIDENTS WILL OCCUR.
