During routine scheduled flight from ZZZ to ZZZ1 the captain's outboard du [display unit] failed. At the same time there was an acidic smell in the cockpit. The pilots donned their oxygen masks; informed the flight attendants; [notified ATC] and diverted to ZZZ2. Upon landing; the aircraft was taxied clear and inspected by fire personnel. The fire personnel found no signs of fire and the aircraft was taxied to the gate.
