Narrative:

While on departure climb through 5000' MSL, the number 1 engine fire warning sounded. The PNF immediately notified ATC of the engine fire warning. ATC granted our request for a return immediately to jfk and cleared us for a visibility approach. The engine fire in flight checklist was performed; both extinguishing bottles were discharged. The single engine operation checklist was performed. The jfk tower advised that the crash trucks were alerted and told to stand by. A single engine approach and landing was made to runway 22R. The aircraft was taxied clear of the active runway. The crash crew did a visibility inspection of the aircraft and reported that no fire danger existed. The aircraft was then taxied to the ramp west/O further incident.

Title: LEFT ENGINE FIRE WARNING AT 5000' MSL CAUSED FLT CREW TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY AND RETURN TO JFK.

Narrative: WHILE ON DEP CLB THROUGH 5000' MSL, THE NUMBER 1 ENG FIRE WARNING SOUNDED. THE PNF IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED ATC OF THE ENG FIRE WARNING. ATC GRANTED OUR REQUEST FOR A RETURN IMMEDIATELY TO JFK AND CLRED US FOR A VIS APCH. THE ENG FIRE IN FLT CHKLIST WAS PERFORMED; BOTH EXTINGUISHING BOTTLES WERE DISCHARGED. THE SINGLE ENG OPERATION CHKLIST WAS PERFORMED. THE JFK TWR ADVISED THAT THE CRASH TRUCKS WERE ALERTED AND TOLD TO STAND BY. A SINGLE ENG APCH AND LNDG WAS MADE TO RWY 22R. THE ACFT WAS TAXIED CLR OF THE ACTIVE RWY. THE CRASH CREW DID A VIS INSPECTION OF THE ACFT AND RPTED THAT NO FIRE DANGER EXISTED. THE ACFT WAS THEN TAXIED TO THE RAMP W/O FURTHER INCIDENT.
