Narrative:

In operations, while filling out paperwork, it was discovered that the wrong aircraft tail # was on the release. A new release was sent from dispatch with correct tail #. We finished paperwork and proceeded to aircraft, accomplished preflight and loaded with passenger, left gate. We had not received our weight and balance yet, but were to receive it on our ACARS while taxiing to runway. Not hearing anything from the company, we called them on the radio. We were told to taxi back to gate--that there was a weight problem--we were overweight. The original aircraft had a maximum takeoff weight of 147000#, and the correct aircraft, the one we were in, had a maximum takeoff weight of 140000 pounds. Someone had forgotten to made a change in the computer, causing us to taxi over weight. It is normal practice to taxi out west/O weight and balance, with our company. After correcting weight problem and receiving a correct weight and balance, we proceeded on with the flight.
