Narrative:

PIC was departing gso field. Radioed gso ground controller and gave aircraft identify, position, and desired departure direction. Clearance was given to begin taxi. Taxiway intersected runway 32. At this intersection, an small aircraft which had just landed was holding short of taxiway entrance. I held short of runway. At last, clearance was given to cross runway and taxi to runway 5, by proceeding straight and making a left at next intersection. From there, I would make a left onto alpha taxiway and hold short of runway, to do runup and await departure clearance. After runup, ground then cleared me to tower who then cleared me for takeoff. After gso tower then asked me to call them, citing a runway incursion. I immediately requested clearance to taxi back to the FBO, and call the tower. On the phone, tower stated that I was on runway 32, not runway 5. I stated I had been given directions to runway 320 and had been given clearance to depart, repeating instructions. Departure point and taxi is visible from tower. The incident was 'dropped'. Aircraft/pilots at foreign airports are naturally going to rely on instructions of controllers, especially at night. It is my suggestion that both controllers and pilot be more meticulous and specific in their communications.

Title: PLT OF SMA AT NIGHT ALLEGEDLY STARTED TKOF ON WRONG RWY, ABORTED TKOF, TAXIED BACK TO FBO AND CALLED TWR.

Narrative: PIC WAS DEPARTING GSO FIELD. RADIOED GSO GND CTLR AND GAVE ACFT IDENT, POS, AND DESIRED DEP DIRECTION. CLRNC WAS GIVEN TO BEGIN TAXI. TXWY INTERSECTED RWY 32. AT THIS INTXN, AN SMA WHICH HAD JUST LANDED WAS HOLDING SHORT OF TXWY ENTRANCE. I HELD SHORT OF RWY. AT LAST, CLRNC WAS GIVEN TO CROSS RWY AND TAXI TO RWY 5, BY PROCEEDING STRAIGHT AND MAKING A L AT NEXT INTXN. FROM THERE, I WOULD MAKE A L ONTO ALPHA TXWY AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY, TO DO RUNUP AND AWAIT DEP CLRNC. AFTER RUNUP, GND THEN CLRED ME TO TWR WHO THEN CLRED ME FOR TKOF. AFTER GSO TWR THEN ASKED ME TO CALL THEM, CITING A RWY INCURSION. I IMMEDIATELY REQUESTED CLRNC TO TAXI BACK TO THE FBO, AND CALL THE TWR. ON THE PHONE, TWR STATED THAT I WAS ON RWY 32, NOT RWY 5. I STATED I HAD BEEN GIVEN DIRECTIONS TO RWY 320 AND HAD BEEN GIVEN CLRNC TO DEPART, REPEATING INSTRUCTIONS. DEP POINT AND TAXI IS VISIBLE FROM TWR. THE INCIDENT WAS 'DROPPED'. ACFT/PLTS AT FOREIGN ARPTS ARE NATURALLY GOING TO RELY ON INSTRUCTIONS OF CTLRS, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. IT IS MY SUGGESTION THAT BOTH CTLRS AND PLT BE MORE METICULOUS AND SPECIFIC IN THEIR COMS.
