Narrative:

Partner in aircraft maintains commercial charts upon initiating approach to sbm noted plates did not show an ILS depicted on en route. Elected, since already on vectors, to continue VOR approach. Upon miss, checked with center. Was informed my charts about 1 yr out of date. Finally got smart, diverted to osh (checking that those charts ok), xeroxed FBO's charts, and returned to sbm. Action to be taken. Double check chart currency. If any suspicion not current contact center notifying them of possible problem with charts. No more semi-bluffing it through! Center was very helpful throughout.
