Narrative:

On takeoff, we discovered that the ground power access door had been left open. We returned for an uneventful landing, inspected the door and secured it for our subsequent departure. We still had more than the required release fuel on board so we proceeded to takeoff to complete that leg of our trip. We checked our flight operations manual during the ground time and found no instructions for an air return situation. As it turns out we did not get rereleased as we should have. Recommend manuals should have return to gate situations addressed and referred to in the index. In any unusual occurrence, shut it down, get out of the aircraft and onto the phone to ask someone else (chief pilot) what to do.
