ATIS indicated a headwind. Upon receiving takeoff clearance; tower reported strong tailwinds. We cleared runway to make performance corrections. This is a common situation. ATC needs to issue specials when winds indicate a tailwind. Further[more]; they should be required to issue a tailwind warning.
