Narrative:
Instructional flight, reviewing ground reference maneuvers when engine made a loud noise and began to run rough. I took control and turned toward a farmer's field. After about 10-15 seconds, the engine quit entirely and the propeller windmilled for another 10 seconds and then stopped. The landing was uneventful and preliminary indications are that the engine swallowed a valve.
