Narrative:

On the evening of 9/90, we were proceeding southwest on J21 direct to the oma VOR, we were pilot's discretion to 4000' MSL. While passing through 5000' MSL oma approach called and asked us to expedite to 4000' for eastbound traffic at 5000'. Upon reaching 4000' oma approach called traffic 3 O'clock at 3000' a southbound widebody transport. We called traffic in sight. Oma approach then told us to descend to 3000' and maintain visibility sep with the widebody transport and fly direct to the oma VOR. (Our course was approximately 200 degree). About 1 min passed and oma approach said turn right to a heading of 230 degree, not knowing the widebody transport course we complied with ATC's request. We immediately realized we were on a converging course with the widebody transport. We called oma approach asking for the widebody transport's course and intentions and also if this was what the controller had planned on. The controller replied that we're to maintain visibility sep. We then informed approach that we were descending to 2500' at this time we noticed the widebody transport turning towards the east to avoid us. We missed a collision by about 2 mi. Oma approach then instructed us to climb to 2900'. We were then handed over to tower and landed. We should have been told/advised of the widebody transport's intentions when traffic was first called and told who was going to be #1 or #2 for landing. We should never have been assigned a heading of 230 degree or the controller should have been more helpful with the situation (vectors to avoid) after we brought the situation up on our call to approach. We also feel that if we were to be #2 on the approach to landing. The approach controller had no concern for our 5 mi wake turbulence sep.

Title: ACPH CTLR POINTED OUT TRAFFIC TO FLC, TOLD FLC TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION AND VECTOR ACFT ON CONFLICTING COURSE WITH TRAFFIC.

Narrative: ON THE EVENING OF 9/90, WE WERE PROCEEDING SW ON J21 DIRECT TO THE OMA VOR, WE WERE PLT'S DISCRETION TO 4000' MSL. WHILE PASSING THROUGH 5000' MSL OMA APCH CALLED AND ASKED US TO EXPEDITE TO 4000' FOR EBND TFC AT 5000'. UPON REACHING 4000' OMA APCH CALLED TFC 3 O'CLOCK AT 3000' A SBND WDB. WE CALLED TFC IN SIGHT. OMA APCH THEN TOLD US TO DSND TO 3000' AND MAINTAIN VIS SEP WITH THE WDB AND FLY DIRECT TO THE OMA VOR. (OUR COURSE WAS APPROX 200 DEG). ABOUT 1 MIN PASSED AND OMA APCH SAID TURN R TO A HDG OF 230 DEG, NOT KNOWING THE WDB COURSE WE COMPLIED WITH ATC'S REQUEST. WE IMMEDIATELY REALIZED WE WERE ON A CONVERGING COURSE WITH THE WDB. WE CALLED OMA APCH ASKING FOR THE WDB'S COURSE AND INTENTIONS AND ALSO IF THIS WAS WHAT THE CTLR HAD PLANNED ON. THE CTLR REPLIED THAT WE'RE TO MAINTAIN VIS SEP. WE THEN INFORMED APCH THAT WE WERE DSNDING TO 2500' AT THIS TIME WE NOTICED THE WDB TURNING TOWARDS THE E TO AVOID US. WE MISSED A COLLISION BY ABOUT 2 MI. OMA APCH THEN INSTRUCTED US TO CLB TO 2900'. WE WERE THEN HANDED OVER TO TWR AND LANDED. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD/ADVISED OF THE WDB'S INTENTIONS WHEN TFC WAS FIRST CALLED AND TOLD WHO WAS GOING TO BE #1 OR #2 FOR LNDG. WE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED A HDG OF 230 DEG OR THE CTLR SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE HELPFUL WITH THE SITUATION (VECTORS TO AVOID) AFTER WE BROUGHT THE SITUATION UP ON OUR CALL TO APCH. WE ALSO FEEL THAT IF WE WERE TO BE #2 ON THE APCH TO LNDG. THE APCH CTLR HAD NO CONCERN FOR OUR 5 MI WAKE TURB SEP.
