Narrative:

IFR flight gdm to bed. Prior to departure, I called FSS for a briefing with a specific request for current NOTAMS and received same. I believed this constituted both approval and checking with the controling agency for flight through R4102B (ny sectional). My error was discovered when I described the flight to another pilot friend who pointed out that the controling agency is ZBW center (as shown on boston TCA chart and sectional) not FSS.

Narrative: IFR FLT GDM TO BED. PRIOR TO DEP, I CALLED FSS FOR A BRIEFING WITH A SPECIFIC REQUEST FOR CURRENT NOTAMS AND RECEIVED SAME. I BELIEVED THIS CONSTITUTED BOTH APPROVAL AND CHKING WITH THE CTLING AGENCY FOR FLT THROUGH R4102B (NY SECTIONAL). MY ERROR WAS DISCOVERED WHEN I DESCRIBED THE FLT TO ANOTHER PLT FRIEND WHO POINTED OUT THAT THE CTLING AGENCY IS ZBW CTR (AS SHOWN ON BOSTON TCA CHART AND SECTIONAL) NOT FSS.
