Narrative:

Mdt Y was westbound out of 14000' climbing to 17000'. Large transport X was nebnd at 17000' on conflicting patterns. When this was noticed action was taken to avoid loss of sep. However the moves were not completed in time to avoid totally closing within 5 mi or 1000'. The moves consisted of attempting to stop the mdt Y at 16000', but he had already gone through it. Vectors were issued to both aircraft for diverging headings and altitudes were issued as well.

Title: ARTCC RADAR CTLR CLIMBED AN MDT TO SAME ALT AS LGT ON CONVERGING COURSE. WHEN POTENTIAL CONFLICT NOTED ACTION WAS TAKEN TO PREVENT LOSS OF SEPARATION, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE.

HOWEVER THE MOVES WERE NOT COMPLETED IN TIME TO AVOID TOTALLY CLOSING WITHIN 5 MI OR 1000'. THE MOVES CONSISTED OF ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE MDT Y AT 16000', BUT HE HAD ALREADY GONE THROUGH IT. VECTORS WERE ISSUED TO BOTH ACFT FOR DIVERGING HDGS AND ALTS WERE ISSUED AS WELL.
