Narrative:

Heading 331 degrees for menlo intersection on big sur arrival into sfo was given clearance for tip toe visual runway 28L. Approach control pointed out large transport traffic at our 2 O'clock descending for runway 28R. At this time we were at an assigned airspeed of 210 KTS. Were asked to reduce to 180 KTS and maintain this speed to brijj. As we closed with the 28L localizer it became apparently that the large transport was south of the sfo 275 degree right and would be too close if we flew the 28L localizer as prescribed in the visibility procedure. We rolled out parallel and displaced south of 28L localizer and both the copilot and I estimate the large transport was no more than 600' away at our 3:30 position at exactly the same altitude and heading. The large transport was not fling the sfo VOR 275 degree right to brijj as prescribed by the quiet bridge visual to runway 28R. By the time we crossed brijj the large transport had passed us and was at our 2 O'clock position at about 600' range. As an ex-air force fighter pilot, I have flown a lot of close formation and still consider it unwise to do so west/O a complete briefing, and downright dangerous if a flight lead has not been designated. All kidding aside, I think this visual procedure into sfo is a safe one only if all pilots adhere to their respective tracks.

Title: ACR ON TIPP TOE VISUAL APCH TO SFO HAS CLOSE PROX WITH ACR ON QUITE BRIDGE APCH BUT NOT ON 095 DEGREE RADIAL.

Narrative: HDG 331 DEGS FOR MENLO INTXN ON BIG SUR ARR INTO SFO WAS GIVEN CLRNC FOR TIP TOE VISUAL RWY 28L. APCH CTL POINTED OUT LGT TFC AT OUR 2 O'CLOCK DSNDING FOR RWY 28R. AT THIS TIME WE WERE AT AN ASSIGNED AIRSPD OF 210 KTS. WERE ASKED TO REDUCE TO 180 KTS AND MAINTAIN THIS SPD TO BRIJJ. AS WE CLOSED WITH THE 28L LOC IT BECAME APPARENTLY THAT THE LGT WAS S OF THE SFO 275 DEG R AND WOULD BE TOO CLOSE IF WE FLEW THE 28L LOC AS PRESCRIBED IN THE VIS PROC. WE ROLLED OUT PARALLEL AND DISPLACED S OF 28L LOC AND BOTH THE COPLT AND I ESTIMATE THE LGT WAS NO MORE THAN 600' AWAY AT OUR 3:30 POS AT EXACTLY THE SAME ALT AND HDG. THE LGT WAS NOT FLING THE SFO VOR 275 DEG R TO BRIJJ AS PRESCRIBED BY THE QUIET BRIDGE VISUAL TO RWY 28R. BY THE TIME WE CROSSED BRIJJ THE LGT HAD PASSED US AND WAS AT OUR 2 O'CLOCK POS AT ABOUT 600' RANGE. AS AN EX-AIR FORCE FIGHTER PLT, I HAVE FLOWN A LOT OF CLOSE FORMATION AND STILL CONSIDER IT UNWISE TO DO SO W/O A COMPLETE BRIEFING, AND DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS IF A FLT LEAD HAS NOT BEEN DESIGNATED. ALL KIDDING ASIDE, I THINK THIS VISUAL PROC INTO SFO IS A SAFE ONE ONLY IF ALL PLTS ADHERE TO THEIR RESPECTIVE TRACKS.
