Narrative:

The problem arose on my approach to pie. 8 mi west of pie I called the tower, gave my position and reported that I was inbound to land at FBO. The tower told me to proceed inbound (an eastbound course) and report 2 mi west. At 2 mi west I reported my position. The tower told me to proceed to FBO. (Note: when 2 mi west I was directly lined up with runway 9.) FBO is on the south side of the field, therefore I made a small heading change to 100 degrees to get south of runway 9 and proceed toward FBO. When 1 mi west of pie, 1 of my passenger saw an military helicopter on the port side of my helicopter and said, 'look at this big helicopter coming toward us.' I looked to the left and saw the mlt on final for runway 9 getting closer to me. As I was about to turn right, the mlt did a sudden turn to the left to avoid collision. From my initial callup 8 mi west to the point of near miss, the tower controller never informed me of the presence of the mlt in the pattern for runway 9 and also never informed me to stay south of the final for the runway. The mlt helicopter radioed the tower and asked in an obviously peeved sounding voice what this small aircraft (meaning me) was 'doing out here.' the tower never told him of my presence, either! The tower then called me and repeated for me to proceed direct to FBO and stay south of runway 9. I told the tower I had already started proceeding to FBO prior to the radio call to me. Besides the lack of vigilance for conflicting traffic on the controller's part, another contributing factor is the design of my helicopter. I situation in the right front seat, with passenger sitting in the left front and left rear seats; the left side becomes a major blind spot for me.

Title: AIR TAXI HELICOPTER CLEARED DIRECT TO FBO ON APCH HAS NMAC WITH MLT HELICOPTER ON APCH.

Narrative: THE PROB AROSE ON MY APCH TO PIE. 8 MI W OF PIE I CALLED THE TWR, GAVE MY POS AND RPTED THAT I WAS INBND TO LAND AT FBO. THE TWR TOLD ME TO PROCEED INBND (AN EBND COURSE) AND RPT 2 MI W. AT 2 MI W I RPTED MY POS. THE TWR TOLD ME TO PROCEED TO FBO. (NOTE: WHEN 2 MI W I WAS DIRECTLY LINED UP WITH RWY 9.) FBO IS ON THE S SIDE OF THE FIELD, THEREFORE I MADE A SMALL HDG CHANGE TO 100 DEGS TO GET S OF RWY 9 AND PROCEED TOWARD FBO. WHEN 1 MI W OF PIE, 1 OF MY PAX SAW AN MIL HELI ON THE PORT SIDE OF MY HELI AND SAID, 'LOOK AT THIS BIG HELI COMING TOWARD US.' I LOOKED TO THE LEFT AND SAW THE MLT ON FINAL FOR RWY 9 GETTING CLOSER TO ME. AS I WAS ABOUT TO TURN RIGHT, THE MLT DID A SUDDEN TURN TO THE LEFT TO AVOID COLLISION. FROM MY INITIAL CALLUP 8 MI W TO THE POINT OF NEAR MISS, THE TWR CTLR NEVER INFORMED ME OF THE PRESENCE OF THE MLT IN THE PATTERN FOR RWY 9 AND ALSO NEVER INFORMED ME TO STAY S OF THE FINAL FOR THE RWY. THE MLT HELI RADIOED THE TWR AND ASKED IN AN OBVIOUSLY PEEVED SOUNDING VOICE WHAT THIS SMA (MEANING ME) WAS 'DOING OUT HERE.' THE TWR NEVER TOLD HIM OF MY PRESENCE, EITHER! THE TWR THEN CALLED ME AND REPEATED FOR ME TO PROCEED DIRECT TO FBO AND STAY S OF RWY 9. I TOLD THE TWR I HAD ALREADY STARTED PROCEEDING TO FBO PRIOR TO THE RADIO CALL TO ME. BESIDES THE LACK OF VIGILANCE FOR CONFLICTING TFC ON THE CTLR'S PART, ANOTHER CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IS THE DESIGN OF MY HELI. I SIT IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT, WITH PAX SITTING IN THE LEFT FRONT AND LEFT REAR SEATS; THE LEFT SIDE BECOMES A MAJOR BLIND SPOT FOR ME.
