Narrative:

I performed a preflight inspection of the aircraft. Started the engine. Contacted clearance delivery (125.5). My intentions were to practice night takeoffs and lndgs at the airport. Clearance requested I squawk 1200 and taxi to 13R. I asked clearance if I should also contact ground control. He replied no, he was working clearance and ground and that I should remain on that frequency (125.5). I proceeded to taxi to 13R and was placed behind an airliner. Ground control asked if I was planning to do an engine run-up before takeoff. I replied affirmative. Ground then asked if I would pull off to the unlit, unnamed taxiway to do the run-up. I called back to verify that he wanted me to pull off to the left beside the FSS office. He replied affirmative. The air carrier jet proceeded to pull up to the hold line for 13R, while I pulled off to the left to do the run-up. Before I started the run-up, I began to feel some turbulence. I thought the jet was going to move on the runway, but there was an airliner on final. The turbulence from the jet proceeded to worsen. I held full elevator down and full right aileron (the jet blast was coming from my right front). After about 15-20 seconds, my aircraft left wing dropped to the ground and then the propeller hit the ground. While I was waiting for a tug, 2 other heavy airliner, cargo jets passed west/O causing any turbulence. I was approximately 150' from the tail of the airliner. Causes: 1) the jet should not perform engine checks/run-ups on a taxiway west/O contacting ground control. 2)ATC should warn heavy aircraft about smaller aircraft behind them.

Title: SMA CLEARED TO AREA FOR RUN-UP IS HIT BY JET BLAST. ACFT DAMAGED.

Narrative: I PERFORMED A PREFLT INSPECTION OF THE ACFT. STARTED THE ENG. CONTACTED CLRNC DELIVERY (125.5). MY INTENTIONS WERE TO PRACTICE NIGHT TKOFS AND LNDGS AT THE ARPT. CLRNC REQUESTED I SQUAWK 1200 AND TAXI TO 13R. I ASKED CLRNC IF I SHOULD ALSO CONTACT GND CTL. HE REPLIED NO, HE WAS WORKING CLRNC AND GND AND THAT I SHOULD REMAIN ON THAT FREQ (125.5). I PROCEEDED TO TAXI TO 13R AND WAS PLACED BEHIND AN AIRLINER. GND CTL ASKED IF I WAS PLANNING TO DO AN ENG RUN-UP BEFORE TKOF. I REPLIED AFFIRMATIVE. GND THEN ASKED IF I WOULD PULL OFF TO THE UNLIT, UNNAMED TXWY TO DO THE RUN-UP. I CALLED BACK TO VERIFY THAT HE WANTED ME TO PULL OFF TO THE LEFT BESIDE THE FSS OFFICE. HE REPLIED AFFIRMATIVE. THE ACR JET PROCEEDED TO PULL UP TO THE HOLD LINE FOR 13R, WHILE I PULLED OFF TO THE LEFT TO DO THE RUN-UP. BEFORE I STARTED THE RUN-UP, I BEGAN TO FEEL SOME TURB. I THOUGHT THE JET WAS GOING TO MOVE ON THE RWY, BUT THERE WAS AN AIRLINER ON FINAL. THE TURB FROM THE JET PROCEEDED TO WORSEN. I HELD FULL ELEVATOR DOWN AND FULL RIGHT AILERON (THE JET BLAST WAS COMING FROM MY RIGHT FRONT). AFTER ABOUT 15-20 SECS, MY ACFT LEFT WING DROPPED TO THE GND AND THEN THE PROP HIT THE GND. WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR A TUG, 2 OTHER HVY AIRLINER, CARGO JETS PASSED W/O CAUSING ANY TURB. I WAS APPROX 150' FROM THE TAIL OF THE AIRLINER. CAUSES: 1) THE JET SHOULD NOT PERFORM ENG CHKS/RUN-UPS ON A TXWY W/O CONTACTING GND CTL. 2)ATC SHOULD WARN HVY ACFT ABOUT SMALLER ACFT BEHIND THEM.
