Narrative:

Hkg-sro passing 10 NM northwest mkg heading 050 degrees. Approximately 10 NM west of track due C/B avoidance, an air carrier Y widebody transport was observed at our 1 O'clock position banking left opp direction FL290 passing off our starboard 1 NM. Our flight not advised of any traffic. Taipei was overhead requesting heading from air carrier Y and advised him of our aircraft as traffic, at which time he was observed by us. Approximately 2 mins later another opp direction air carrier Y widebody transport Z passing opp direction FL280. Widebody transport Y was heard reporting FL310 approximately 3 mins after near miss. Had both aircraft been IMC collision would have been probable. Widebody transport Y advised he was filing near miss report. Taipei advised radar showed 5 mi sep. Comments: very busy route, much charter, language potential problem.
