Narrative:
Returning to ZZZ after experience engine malfunction; suffered complete engine failure and subsequently was forced to land [off-airport]. Aircraft lost left main landing gear and the tailwheel during landing then skidded in the water. I suspected a possible fire and evacuated after securing all sources of ignition and fuel. No fire noted and no injuries occurred. After review of all contributing factors; I'm unable to see any potential actions or factors that could have prevented this event. I suspect a failure of the oil pump based on the pre failure indications and characteristics.
