Narrative:

I was the captain and pilot monitoring for [our] flight [to] unv. The flight was conducted normally under VFR conditions. We were cleared to 4;300 feet and cleared direct worex prior to reporting the field in sight. Once we reported the field in sight; we were cleared for the approach. We decided to wait to descend to the final approach altitude until getting closer to clearing the ridge that was on the left base for worex. Upon reaching the ridge the first officer (who was the pilot flying) dialed in a 1;000 FPM descent to the final approach altitude. Shortly after starting the descent and already checking on with tower; we received a terrain ground proximity warning and then almost immediately a whoop whoop pull pull up aural warning. There was confusion as to whether or not it was valid so immediately I stated 'my aircraft' and initiated the terrain escape procedure. [At] this point I became the pilot flying. After being certain we were clear of any further conflict I immediately leveled off at 4;500 feet and notified the tower we responded to a ground proximity warning and need vectors back around for the approach. We were handed off to center and received vectors. Awac had reported +/- 20 knots on final a few [minutes] prior to our approach. This report was over 20 minutes old. We experienced a 15 knot gain/loss on final and received no wind-shear indications from the wind-shear detection system and were stable below 1;000 feet AGL. Condition was realized with ground proximity aural warning. Rate of change on RA combined with speed of 210 knots caused a false indication of the ground proximity system.
