Narrative:

ZDV cleared me 'for the approach' into mck. When I tried to confirm which approach I was already too low for communications. Being late for a business meeting and frustrated at the feeling of being left hanging, I turned right to start my course reversal. I feel vague instructions by the controller and the desire to get there contributed to my lapse in thinking. If in the future I am uncertain about how to start a procedure, I will fly the missed approach procedure knowing I will always be in a safe airspace. The approach I used was VOR 12.
