Narrative:
On departure from lax on the summr 1; we began to encounter wake turbulence from the preceding plane. The wind was from the right so I told ATC that we were deviating right for wake turbulence. They said it was okay and gave us a new altitude limit. Later; we went direct to a fix and we continued on the departure with no other issues. I called back to the flight attendants shortly after the event to make sure everyone was okay; and they were. I ACARS'd dispatch about the event and when we landed; I made contact with the on call chief pilot.
