Narrative:

We were in a widebody transport landing on runway 25L at lax airport, the first officer was flying. We were following a widebody transport by approximately 5 mi and tower cleared us to land. The widebody transport was holding short of runway 25R on the taxiway between runway 25 right and left. He was told by the tower 3 times to move forward 10', but apparently did not move. I told the first officer to continue the approach and landing because in my judgement the tail of the widebody transport was clear of the runway. On the landing rollout we passed the widebody transport at approximately 30 KTS, I steered the aircraft a little to the left of the runway centerline to give us a little more clearance. The first officer told me he thought the tail of the widebody transport was over the taxiway hold line by 10 or 15'. We had ample wingtip to tail clearance, but I would feel more comfortable if the tail had been behind the taxiway hold line.

Title: REPORTERS PROTEST TWR POLICY OF HOLDING WDB TYPE ACFT BETWEEN RWYS AT LAX.

Narrative: WE WERE IN A WDB LNDG ON RWY 25L AT LAX ARPT, THE F/O WAS FLYING. WE WERE FOLLOWING A WDB BY APPROX 5 MI AND TWR CLRED US TO LAND. THE WDB WAS HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 25R ON THE TXWY BTWN RWY 25 R AND L. HE WAS TOLD BY THE TWR 3 TIMES TO MOVE FORWARD 10', BUT APPARENTLY DID NOT MOVE. I TOLD THE F/O TO CONTINUE THE APCH AND LNDG BECAUSE IN MY JUDGEMENT THE TAIL OF THE WDB WAS CLR OF THE RWY. ON THE LNDG ROLLOUT WE PASSED THE WDB AT APPROX 30 KTS, I STEERED THE ACFT A LITTLE TO THE L OF THE RWY CTRLINE TO GIVE US A LITTLE MORE CLRNC. THE F/O TOLD ME HE THOUGHT THE TAIL OF THE WDB WAS OVER THE TXWY HOLD LINE BY 10 OR 15'. WE HAD AMPLE WINGTIP TO TAIL CLRNC, BUT I WOULD FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE IF THE TAIL HAD BEEN BEHIND THE TXWY HOLD LINE.
