Narrative:

We pushed back from gate 1. Ground control cleared us to 'taxi to runway 33.' immediately after starting to taxi, we turned the corner to parallel runway 15/33. Aircraft were parked on gates B2, 3 and 4. There is a white line and we put the nose wheel on it to give us clearance on the parked aircraft. Final for runway 33 was clearly visible to us, and no aircraft were on approach. As soon as we turned the corner, we switched to tower. Tower immediately told us we were overlapping the runway. This is a totally unsatisfactory situation for 2 reasons: airline crews, such as this one, may only occasionally visit this airport and we cannot intimately know all 150 or so airports we use. The chart copies enclosed make no notation of the problem. Taxiway markings clarify nothing. More to the point, from our position after push back, we obviously could not have moved more than 10 or 15' before we were in the position that the tower said we were overlapping the runway. There is no way that ground should have 'cleared us to taxi' under these circumstances. We simply must get controllers and pilots working together and communicating better.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG TAXIING AT BUR ALLEGEDLY OVERLAPPED ONTO 33 RWY AFTER TURNING THE CORNER AND PROCEEDING TO END OF RWY.

Narrative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
