Narrative:
During climbout at FL360 master warning cabin altitude presented. Center [was advised]. QRH/emergency procedure complied with. Diversion to filed departure alternate airport was initiated. Passengers advised of issue; company; maintenance control and dispatch [were] advised. Landed safely. Passengers briefed after landing on event and their questions answered. Company director of operations and chief pilot advised of event. I recorded event in aircraft flight maintenance log. First officer experienced severe ear pain he attributes to the [expedited] descent rate to 10;000 feet per the QRH/emergency procedure. He was treated at emergency room later that day.
