Narrative:

We had closed the doors to the aircraft and were waiting on the ramp for clearance to push back. The company employee that was to push us handed, via a pole, some letters to give to a company jump seat rider, who was in pilot uniform and had such authority. Since the door was closed, I had allowed the flight officer to leave the cockpit and take an empty seat in the cabin. The letters were passed back to the pilot. My second officer did contact company operations and was informed that the letters were from employees and to have the jump seat person (who lives in cancun and commutes) mail them in the 'states.' he said, 'ok, tell 'em I'll see 'em in a couple weeks.' at this time I only thought of the act as a common friendly gesture of delivering some mail a little faster. Since the person giving us the letters did have total access to the aircraft and the uniformed pilot would have to go through customs at ord, any form of alleged plot never entered my mind. Since then, in retrospect and reconsideration, I've decided that perhaps such form of delivery was in some respects irregular and that maybe I did make a judgemental error. In the future, no items of a personal nature will be permitted to transit through my cockpit.

Title: RAMP AGENT AT CANCUN, MEXICO HANDED UP SOME LETTERS THROUGH COCKPIT WINDOW FOR OBSERVER COCKPIT RIDER TO MAIN IN THE STATES. FLT CREW IN RETROSPECT QUESTION THE ADVISABILITY OF ACCEPTING SUCH MATERIAL AT THE LAST MINUTE AND THE PROC.

Narrative: WE HAD CLOSED THE DOORS TO THE ACFT AND WERE WAITING ON THE RAMP FOR CLRNC TO PUSH BACK. THE COMPANY EMPLOYEE THAT WAS TO PUSH US HANDED, VIA A POLE, SOME LETTERS TO GIVE TO A COMPANY JUMP SEAT RIDER, WHO WAS IN PLT UNIFORM AND HAD SUCH AUTHORITY. SINCE THE DOOR WAS CLOSED, I HAD ALLOWED THE FLT OFFICER TO LEAVE THE COCKPIT AND TAKE AN EMPTY SEAT IN THE CABIN. THE LETTERS WERE PASSED BACK TO THE PLT. MY S/O DID CONTACT COMPANY OPS AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE LETTERS WERE FROM EMPLOYEES AND TO HAVE THE JUMP SEAT PERSON (WHO LIVES IN CANCUN AND COMMUTES) MAIL THEM IN THE 'STATES.' HE SAID, 'OK, TELL 'EM I'LL SEE 'EM IN A COUPLE WKS.' AT THIS TIME I ONLY THOUGHT OF THE ACT AS A COMMON FRIENDLY GESTURE OF DELIVERING SOME MAIL A LITTLE FASTER. SINCE THE PERSON GIVING US THE LETTERS DID HAVE TOTAL ACCESS TO THE ACFT AND THE UNIFORMED PLT WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH CUSTOMS AT ORD, ANY FORM OF ALLEGED PLOT NEVER ENTERED MY MIND.
