Narrative:

The clearance instructions were misunderstood reading the lido page. After receiving the departure clearance in sjc via the LOUPE4 bmrng transition; then as filed. Both crew members thought the clearance cleared us to the bmrng fix. Lido was unclear in the departure procedure. Departure clearance asked why we did not turn to the heading assigned on the lido chart. Neither tower nor ground instructed us to turn to the 123 heading. Lido charts need to be worded with more fluidity. Refer to jeppesen for example.
