Narrative:

I worked aircraft X from the center down to the final. He requested to land ILS 4L and I told him to expect that approach. When he got a little closer to the field the tower called and requested that I give aircraft X ILS 4R due to departures waiting to leave on 4L. I told aircraft X about the change in approach. When he was south of the field I cleared aircraft X to cross zetal at 1;500 ft; cleared him for the ILS 4R approach; and switched him over to the tower. I saw aircraft X start his turn early and thought he had picked up the field visually and the tower had cleared him in as such. The low altitude alert sounded with aircraft X at 600 ft and three miles east of the final approach course. At which point I called the tower and heard him issuing a low altitude alert to aircraft X; at which point it began to climb back up.I am not sure as to what caused aircraft X to completely miss the final approach course and fly inbound as they did. However I should have called the tower to confirm if they had changed aircraft X over to a visual approach when the early turn occurred.
