Narrative:
Inbound on scurry arrival, cleared to 8000' on heading from porks intersection. Clearance to intercept localizer dfw 31R. Intercepted. Stepped down to 3000' MSL, then cleared approach. Broke off approach by dfw approach for other traffic (other aircraft broke off approach for WX). Vectors followed for ILS 36L at dfw. Digital radar showed 'red' on the airport. Visually rain obscured view of airport. Requested to abort the approach for WX. Instructed immediate left turn south heading and climb to 4000' MSL. First officer called traffic 12 O'clock. While checking traffic overshot altitude by approximately 200'. Light aircraft passed well below and right of aircraft. Rain moved north of dfw. Uneventful manual ILS 36L. First officer did note and call 4000'. With the power wiped off and a pushover we stopped it in 180-200'. A lot was going on. Use of autoplt could have facilitated left/O. What we did right: 1) refused approach for WX we felt unsafe, and 2) saw and avoided traffic.
