Narrative:

Crew experienced an ahrs 1 failure confirmed by autopilot failing; heading (heading) failure in pfd 1; mfd and in the scratch pad of FMS. And attitude (att) failure on pfd 1 and FMS scratch pad. Pilot flying transferred controls to non-flying pilot as well as radios; while checklist was retrieved.the checklist was retrieved and run to completion but finding the actual failure (AHRS1) took longer than expected searching and thusly required systems knowledge to individually isolate the heading portion and then the att portions for reversion. There was no one item for loss of heading and attitude information (ahrs). The crew communicated with ATC regarding aircraft being non rvsm compliant and coordinated lower altitude. Flight continued without incident. There were no deviations; nor further information or telephone exchanged.the addition of a joint failure of heading and att (ahrs) would have made sense rather than separated items. The newer checklist felt fractured in this particular instance.

Title: CE-560XL Captain reported a failure of the AHRS and the inadequacy of the checklist while addressing this issue.

Narrative: Crew experienced an AHRS 1 failure confirmed by autopilot failing; Heading (HDG) failure in PFD 1; MFD and in the scratch pad of FMS.
