Narrative:
We arrived this morning with snow in progress; and slippery ramp and taxiway conditions. Due to the contaminated conditions; I choose to enter the gate lead-in line with both engines running. We pulled in; and were marshalled to a stop by the ramp crew. I gave the sign for 'brakes set' and before I could even reach for the start levers; the ramp agent who marshalled us in gave the rest of the crew the sign for 'engines clear.' the engines were most definitely not clear. As soon as I saw him give the sign; I shut them down immediately before someone could enter the safety zone. The ramp crew was working in adverse conditions; but needs to slow down and maintain eye contact with the captain while parking the aircraft. This could obviously lead to a catastrophic outcome.
