Narrative:

In cruise; I placed my company issued electronic flight bag (ipad) case on top of the instrument panel and noticed a deflection of the standby compass. In researching; I realized this might be a violation of FAA AC 43.14-1B chapter 12 section 3 since the requirement to maintain the ipad case in the cockpit could constitute a de facto installation of an item containing ferrous metal requiring a re-swinging of the compass card with a standardized storage location for the ipad case.
