Narrative:

Before pushing off gate X; we were anticipating runway 22L. After pushing; we were taxiing out on the west line between concourse G and H. Ramp control switched us to metering; and we contacted them as we approached the top of the concourse and stopped. Metering instructed us to monitor ground frequency. Ground contacted us and instructed us to follow an [embraer] aircraft leaving the alley between concourse F and G to runway 28R. I looked to my right and saw the [embraer] 145 and started to slowly move out from our stopped position. We noted the runway change; and the first officer went to the FMS to make the necessary changes. At that time she noticed an aircraft to our left; an A320 moving towards us; and said to stop. I stopped immediately. I attempted to transmit on the ground frequency for the other aircraft to stop; but there was no response and the airplane continued on taxiway a as if he did not notice us. The aircraft's wingtip came 5-10 feet from our windshield.there were at least 4 airplanes in our alley at the same time and it was very congested. I believe the other aircraft was at the top of the east line between concourse G and H and stopped before we stopped at the top of the west line and received taxi clearance before we switched to ground frequency. I believe that the A320 was delayed before taxiing. So when we received our taxi instructions; ground control may have assumed the A320 had already moved because we did not received any instructions to give way to that aircraft.I'm uncertain how I missed spotting the A320; but I was focused on spotting the [embraer] aircraft leaving the other alley on my right hand side. I also was communicating with the first officer about the runway change. It is normally busy in the alleys at ZZZ with much congestion and movement. This isn't the first time at ZZZ that I have been given taxi instructions and not told to give way while another aircraft passes.
