Narrative:

While on oceanic clearance (INS direct to rubie, 32 degrees 53 mins north, 71 degree 40 mins west) deviation around heavy WX on course was necessary. We were unable to obtain the necessary clearance. Efforts were more difficult because of heavy precipitation static. Declared an emergency for WX avoidance. Deviated as necessary and changed altitude (38000 ft) to enhance collision avoidance. Terminated emergency when clear of WX. Flight proceeded uneventful from then on. Poor communications (HF) and heavy crossing traffic added greatly to this problem.

Title: FLT CREW OF TRANS-ATLANTIC FLT ENROUTE TO MCO DEVIATES FROM COURSE DUE TO ENCOUNTERING POTENTIALLY SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WX WITHOUT COORD WITH ZNY DUE TO RADIO RECEPTION PROBLEM.

Narrative: WHILE ON OCEANIC CLRNC (INS DIRECT TO RUBIE, 32 DEGS 53 MINS N, 71 DEG 40 MINS W) DEV AROUND HVY WX ON COURSE WAS NECESSARY. WE WERE UNABLE TO OBTAIN THE NECESSARY CLRNC. EFFORTS WERE MORE DIFFICULT BECAUSE OF HVY PRECIPITATION STATIC. DECLARED AN EMER FOR WX AVOIDANCE. DEVIATED AS NECESSARY AND CHANGED ALT (38000 FT) TO ENHANCE COLLISION AVOIDANCE. TERMINATED EMER WHEN CLR OF WX. FLT PROCEEDED UNEVENTFUL FROM THEN ON. POOR COMS (HF) AND HVY XING TFC ADDED GREATLY TO THIS PROB.
